Job Stories From Addison County, VT
Solution To A Sagging Floor in Bristol, VT

Jeff was facing a big problem; the floors in his old home were sagging. Most often, this problem occurs due to deteriorating support beams from the basement. In Jeff’s case, the lack of support was coming from his crawlspace. To combat this problem, Jeff reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems and found a solution.

Matt Clark and his team of experts installed thirteen SmartJacks in Jeff’s crawlspace. The SmartJack system permanently lifts and stabilizes the existing beams and floor joists in a crawl space. Engineered fill addresses the problem of weak foundation soil by transferring the weight of the home to competent strata. Steel columns are secured to the beams and finally heavy-duty rods allow for adjustment and a custom fit to Jeff’s crawlspace.

Jeff won’t have to worry about his sagging floors anymore. Fortunately, he was proactive about the situation before it became worse. If you’ve got a similar situation, give Matt Clark a call for a free estimate!

Eliminating Water Leakages in Bristol, VT

Jesse was experiencing water in his basement. Even though it was a small leak, it was persistent during rain fall and the spring season. He figured there must be a way to take care of it. After doing some research online, he reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems.

Matt Clark and his team of experts have seen this problem again and again in their line of work. They installed a SuperSump pump system, their DryTrak system, a LawnScape outlet and a discharge line. The DryTrak system runs along the base of the walls, collecting the water from the exterior soil and pushing it to the pump. From the pump, the water is channeled through the discharge line and released through the outlet, at a safe distance from the house. With all these installations in place, Jesse’s basement will be much drier during storms and the spring season.

Now Jesse doesn’t have to worry about water in his basement anymore. Basement water may seem like a difficult problem, but Matt Clark is an expert in the basement field and can find a solution. Give him a call if you have a concern about your basement.

Stopping Basement Water Leakages

Mary had a problem. During the spring season or during a heavy rain storm, her basement would take on water. After doing some research online, she found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems and decided to give them a call.

When Matt and his team of experts went to Mary’s house, they knew just what to do. They installed their TripleSafe pump system, Waterguard system, a discharge line and an Iceguard. The Waterguard, which a gutter-like device, collects the water and sends it to the pump. The TripleSafe pump system is made up of three pumps; a primary pump and two backup pumps for when the power fails. The primary pump channels the water through the discharge line and back to the outdoor surface. The Iceguard is a nifty device that prevents the discharge line from freezing. With all these installations in place, Mary’s basement is well-suited for the next rain storm.

Mary made the right choice by calling Matt Clark. She can rest easily knowing that her basement will stay safe and dry for years to come.

CleanSpace, TripleSafe Sump Pump, & Water Guard in Panton, Vermont, by Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems.

The owner of a wonderful home in Panton, Vermont, had a horrible water problem in their basement.  Water would violate their basement every time there was a good amount of rain and during the melting of snow.  The owner would spend hours and hours of their valuable time cleaning up the mess from the water.  They used mops, towels; you name it.  It was a complete nightmare.  Their basement walls had a good amount of seepage and moisture on them too.  They also had a large crawl space where the same issues were happening.

They researched and researched a company that would stand by their work, which is trusted and very reputable.  They made the right choice and went with Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems.  System Design Specialist to do a site visit and go over all the options for the homeowner.  They decided to go with a full perimeter Water Guard System, a TripleSafe Sump Pump., Clean Space on all the basement walls and in the crawl space.  They also decided a pump in the crawl space would be very beneficial to keeping the crawl space dry.

The Water Guard System will run the perimeter of the basement and collect all the water.  It then will take the water to the TripleSafe Sump Pump.  The pump will then discharge the water out a discharge line away from the house.  CleanSpace achieves several important goals. As part of your waterproofing system, it creates effective moisture and vapor barrier—the wall covering forces all wall seepage and moisture to flow into your perimeter drain system. The white poly surface eliminates the need to paint basement walls, providing a bright, stain-resistant finish that never needs repainting or maintenance.  CleanSpace is also installed in the crawl space along with a Super Sump pump.  The homeowners are pleased with their dry basement and very happy they don't have to waste any of their valuable time cleaning up water in their basement.

Foundation Crack in Middlebury, Vermont, with Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems.

A homeowner in Middlebury, Vermont, contacted Matt Clark's' Northern Basement Systems after discovering a large crack running down their foundation wall. The crack had developed gradually, growing more expansive over time, and was causing some concern. It appeared that the house had been settling, and this shift led to the foundation cracking in a noticeable and potentially hazardous way.

Our team assessed the situation and confirmed that the crack was indeed caused by the foundation settling unevenly, likely due to changes in the soil beneath the home. If left untreated, the crack could worsen, allowing water to seep in and possibly causing more structural damage.

To tackle the issue, we began by addressing the large crack itself. Using the FlexiSpan® crack repair system, we cleaned the crack and filled it with a durable sealant to prevent any water from entering. Then, we applied a secondary drainage layer to direct any moisture that might bypass the first seal away from the basement interior, ensuring a comprehensive solution.

With the crack sealed, we turned our attention to stabilizing the foundation. To prevent further settling, we installed helical piers under the affected area of the foundation. These piers were driven deep into stable soil or bedrock, and once in place, they lifted the foundation back to its original position. This provided a permanent solution to the settling issue and helped prevent future cracking.

Crawl Space Repair in Ripton, Vermont | Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems

This Ripton, Vermont, homeowner had a crawl space that was in rough shape. The area had old plastic on the ground, fallen insulation, debris, and the kind of damp, dirty conditions that make most people want to close the hatch and pretend the space does not exist. Unfortunately, ignoring a nasty crawl space does not make the problem go away.

When our team inspected the crawl space, it was clear the home needed more than a quick cleanup. The exposed ground, loose insulation, and general condition of the space were all signs that the crawl space needed to be properly separated from the home above. Crawl spaces like this can affect comfort, energy efficiency, and the overall condition of the house.

Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems cleaned up the space and installed a crawl space encapsulation system to help protect the home from the exposed ground below. The encapsulation helped create a cleaner, brighter, and better-protected area under the home. By the time the project was complete, the difference was easy to see. What started as a nasty crawl space was transformed into a cleaner, more usable part of the home. The homeowner no longer had to worry about crawling into a dirty, damp mess whenever access was needed.

If your crawl space in Ripton or the surrounding area is damp, dirty, or just plain nasty, Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems can help with a free crawl space repair estimate.

Basement Waterproofing in Whiting, Vermont | Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems

A homeowner in Whiting, Vermont, contacted Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems for help with water intrusion in their basement. The basement had several usable areas, including mechanical equipment and finished-looking wall sections, so the homeowner needed a waterproofing system that could manage water without detracting from the space's overall function.

During the inspection, our team found signs of moisture along the walls and floor. Water needed to be collected at the perimeter and directed to a dependable sump pump system before it could spread across the basement. The home also needed a clean discharge setup outside to move collected water away from the foundation.

Northern Basement Systems installed CleanSpace Wall System along the basement walls to help brighten the space and direct wall moisture into the drainage system. Interior drainage was installed along the perimeter to collect water at the base of the foundation wall and guide it to the sump pump system. The crew installed a TripleSafe sump pump system with an UltraSump battery backup for added protection. The system was then connected to an exterior discharge line designed to move water away from the home. LawnScape was used at the end of the discharge line to help release water away from the foundation.

Once the waterproofing system was complete, the basement had a cleaner appearance and a more dependable way to handle water intrusion. This project is a good example of how a full system can protect a basement while keeping the space usable and organized.

Basement Waterproofing in Hancock, Vermont | Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems

A homeowner in Hancock, Vermont, contacted Northern Basement Systems after dealing with water intrusion in their basement. The space had an older stone foundation, and water was seeping across the floor, creating a basement that was harder to use and harder to trust during wet conditions. After inspecting the basement, our team recommended a full interior waterproofing system. The goal was to collect water along the perimeter, direct it to a dependable sump pump system, and discharge it away from the home. The basement also needed a wall system that could help guide wall moisture down into the drainage system while improving the overall appearance of the space.

Northern Basement Systems installed the CleanSpace Wall System along key wall areas to help create a cleaner, brighter surface and direct moisture into the waterproofing system. Interior drainage was installed around the perimeter to collect water at the base of the foundation wall before it could continue spreading across the basement floor. The system was connected to a TripleSafe sump pump system with UltraSump battery backup. This setup gives the homeowner multiple levels of pumping protection, including backup support during power outages. On the exterior, the discharge line was finished with IceGuard and a LawnScape outlet to help move water away from the foundation. Once the work was complete, the basement had a cleaner appearance and a much more dependable way to manage water intrusion. I've got a small, low crawl space with furnace and sump pump. The land surrounding the house is slightly higher and when it rains, water drains in for days afterwards. If the power goes out for long, the fury needs to be repaired. I've had French drains installed around previous homes and they were great.
