A homeowner in Bridgewater Corners, Vermont, reached out to Northern Basement Systems after water entered their basement and collected across the concrete floor. The basement housed important mechanical equipment, storage items, and utility access, so keeping the space dry and usable was a major priority. Water staining on the block foundation walls and damp areas on the floor showed that the basement needed a better drainage and pumping solution.
During the inspection, the team found that water was seeping into the basement and spreading across open floor areas, including around the oil tank and mechanical equipment. Because the basement had multiple vulnerable points and limited space to work around, the solution needed to manage water at the floor level, direct it to a reliable sump system, and safely discharge it away from the home.
The crew installed a basement waterproofing system designed to collect incoming water and move it out of the basement before it could continue spreading across the floor. TrenchDrain was installed in key floor areas to capture surface water and direct it toward the sump system. This was especially important around the oil tank and open floor areas where water had been collecting.
An UltraSump 4 battery backup sump pump system was installed to provide dependable pumping protection, even during power outages. The discharge line was routed to the exterior of the home, where IceGuard was installed to help protect against frozen or blocked discharge lines during cold Vermont weather. The system was finished with a LawnScape outlet to move water away from the foundation in a clean, low-profile way. With the new drainage, sump, and discharge system in place, the homeowner now has a basement that is better protected against water intrusion. Instead of water spreading across the floor and causing stress on the home’s mechanical systems, the system is designed to collect it, pump it out, and discharge it safely away from the foundation.
