A homeowner in Plattsburgh, New York, had been struggling with a damp and uncomfortable crawl space for years. Every spring and after heavy rain, the space beneath their home would collect moisture and develop a strong, musty odor that would work its way upstairs. Over time, the high humidity began to affect insulation and ductwork, and the homeowner noticed their heating system running longer to keep the house comfortable. Frustrated and worried about long-term damage, they reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems for help.
When the waterproofing specialist arrived, the problem was clear. The crawl space had an exposed dirt floor and no vapor barrier, allowing moisture from the ground to rise freely into the air. The humidity levels were high, the wooden joists were beginning to show signs of dampness, and the environment was far from healthy. The homeowner wanted a permanent fix that would not only keep the crawl space dry but also improve the air quality throughout the entire home. The Northern Basement Systems team designed a custom encapsulation and moisture control solution using industry-leading products from Basement Systems®. The first step was to install the CleanSpace® Encapsulation System, a thick, 20-mil reinforced vapor barrier that completely seals the crawl space from the earth. This bright white liner instantly transformed the area, preventing ground moisture from evaporating into the air and giving the space a clean, finished look. To handle any potential water or plumbing leaks beneath the liner, a SmartDrain® System was installed. The SmartDrain safely collects and redirects water away from the home and includes a WaterWatch® alarm that alerts the homeowner if water is ever detected. Finally, to maintain ideal humidity levels and fresh air year-round, the team added a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier, the most powerful and energy-efficient crawl space dehumidifier available.
Once the installation was complete, the results were immediate. The musty odor was gone, the crawl space felt clean and dry, and the air inside the home was noticeably fresher. With the new CleanSpace system and SaniDry Sedona in place, the homeowner could finally stop worrying about moisture and enjoy a healthier, more comfortable home.

For years, a family in Plattsburgh, New York, wanted to finish their basement into a bright, livable space. But one major obstacle stood in the way — they needed a proper egress window to make it legal and safe for a future bedroom. Their small, outdated window provided little light and no safe exit in case of an emergency.
After researching trusted contractors, they called Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems — the region’s leading experts in basement finishing and waterproofing. Our team inspected the foundation and identified the ideal location for a Basement Systems Egress Window Well System.
The crew carefully cut into the foundation wall, ensuring clean lines and a watertight fit for the new window. A durable, code-compliant Egress Window Well was installed with a built-in ladder and proper drainage to prevent water buildup. The transformation was immediate — natural light flooded the basement, and the space now met New York State building code for basement bedrooms.
Today, homeowners can move forward with confidence, knowing their basement is not only brighter and safer but also adds real value to their home.
Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems helps homeowners across Upstate New York turn dark, unused spaces into comfortable, legal living areas.

Homeowners in Plattsburgh, New York, were growing tired of the cold floors, high energy bills, and damp air that seemed to linger throughout their house. Every winter, the chill from their crawl space crept up into the living area, and every spring, heavy rains left the crawl space damp and uninviting. The space had exposed soil, failing insulation, and no protection from moisture. They knew it was time to invest in a permanent solution.
That’s when they called Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems, the trusted name in crawl space encapsulation in Plattsburgh, NY.
During our inspection, we confirmed what the homeowners had suspected—there was no vapor barrier in place, and the old insulation had begun to deteriorate, providing little to no protection. To address both moisture and energy loss, we recommend a complete CleanSpace Crawl Space Encapsulation System, combined with SilverGlo Insulation Panels.
Our crew began by sealing the crawl space with the CleanSpace® liner, a durable and heavy-duty barrier that locks out ground moisture and instantly brightens the space. Next, we installed SilverGlo™ insulation along the walls. This system not only provides superior insulation value but also reflects heat into the home, keeping floors warmer and improving overall energy efficiency. Together, these systems create a clean, dry, and controlled environment designed to withstand the most brutal North Country winters.
When the project was complete, the homeowners noticed an immediate difference. The floors above felt warmer, the musty odor was gone, and their heating system no longer had to work as hard. They gained peace of mind knowing their crawl space was now protected and their home was more energy-efficient—all thanks to the experts at Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems.

In Plattsburgh, New York, a homeowner had grown tired of battling a wet basement every time it rained. What started as occasional puddles had turned into regular water intrusion, threatening stored items, worsening indoor air quality, and raising concerns about future foundation damage. After years of temporary fixes, they reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems—a regional leader in basement waterproofing services.
Our experienced team conducted a thorough inspection and designed a permanent basement waterproofing solution utilizing two of the most effective products available: the WaterGuard interior drainage system and the TripleSafe sump pump system.
WaterGuard® was installed around the interior perimeter of the basement to capture wall and floor seepage before it reaches the living space. This non-clogging system sits just above the footing, keeping water away from the basement floor. We then installed the TripleSafe™ sump pump, a powerful three-in-one system that provides reliable pumping capacity with built-in redundancy and a battery backup, ensuring protection during power outages.
With both systems in place, the basement is now dry year-round, regardless of weather conditions. The homeowner has peace of mind knowing their investment is protected and their home is healthier and safer.

In Plattsburgh, New York, a home started showing signs of cracking and bowing walls. The family had always thought of their home as a solid, reliable structure, but the growing concerns about the integrity of their foundation were hard to ignore. The basement walls were visibly bowing, and the family knew ignoring the problem could lead to serious damage. Desperate for a solution, they reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems, hoping for a way to restore their home’s stability.
The home’s foundation walls had quietly been under pressure from the surrounding soil for years, slowly bowing inward. At first, the cracks were small, but over time, the problem had grown more apparent. The family had noticed damp spots on the floor, signs of potential water damage, and the unmistakable feeling that something wasn’t right with the structure. The walls weren’t just leaning—they were shifting, threatening the home’s stability. The family knew they needed professional help before the issue became a full-blown crisis.
When Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems arrived for their consultation, they immediately assessed the situation and recommended the PowerBrace wall system as the ideal solution. The PowerBrace system is designed to stabilize foundation walls that are bowing or leaning without requiring invasive excavation. The system uses steel beams anchored to the basement floor and the top of the foundation walls, providing immediate support to halt the wall movement.
The team explained that the PowerBrace system's beauty was its ability to be adjusted over time. If the walls continued to shift, they could gradually straighten with the help of the system, restoring the foundation to its original position. The family felt relieved knowing this long-term solution would protect their home for years.
The installation of the PowerBrace system began a week later. The process was surprisingly quick and efficient, with the team of skilled technicians working with precision. The team anchored the steel beams to the floor and secured them to the basement walls. The family was impressed by how noninvasive the installation was—there was no need for digging up the yard or disrupting the landscaping outside. Within a single day, the installation was complete, and the family could already see the immediate difference in the stability of the walls.
With the PowerBrace system in place, the family felt relief. The walls that had been bowing no longer showed any signs of movement, and the system’s adjustable capabilities meant she wouldn’t have to worry about future shifts. The family could finally enjoy their basement again without fearing further foundation issues.
Installing the PowerBrace wall system in the family's Plattsburgh home was a turning point for their family. What had once been a growing worry about the safety and stability of their home was now a thing of the past. With the foundation walls securely stabilized, the family could focus on enjoying their home again, knowing it was protected from the long-term effects of foundation shifting. The family's decision to choose Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems solved their immediate problem and ensured their home's long-term structural integrity.

A family in Plattsburgh, New York was getting ready for the arrival of their new baby. They were filled with joy and excitement, but also a feeling of "we need more space." They knew if they could somehow get the water to stop entering their basement there would an ample amount of extra space to use. The family decided the time had come to get help and permanently waterproof their basement, giving them all the extra space needed.
They started doing research, carefully examing every option and company they could find. They finally came to the conclusion that Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems would provide the best option for the services they required. They gave a call to 855-DRY-TIME and set up a Free Estimate with a highly trained and experienced System Design Specialist. The System Design Specialist inspected the basement and water issues, coming up with a plan to permanently waterproof the family basement and give the family a clean, dry, useable space.
Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems team of Installation Specialists went to work executing the System Design Specialists basement waterproofing plan.
First, Water Guard perimeter drainage was installed along the entire perimeter of the basement. The Water Guard is installed just underneath the perimeter edge of the basement floor. It includes a wall flange with 3/8" opening to collect water from the walls. The water guard will sit on top of the footing, away from the mud underneath your floor.
Next, the Water Guard System is tied into the sump pump. The basement always got a larger amount of water, so they went with the Triple Safe Sump Pump. The Triple Safe will be able to keep up with the water amount, keeping the basement dry. The Triple Safe comes with a primary pump, secondary pump, and a battery backup pump. The battery backup will make sure that, even in the event of a power outage, the basement will remain clean and dry.
Finally, the sump pump is connected to discharge lines that go out of the basement and connect to an Ice Guard and exterior discharge line. The water will pump out of the Triple Safe sump pump, out the discharge lines, to the Ice Guard, then down an exterior discharge line, away from the home.
The family now has the clean, dry, useable basement they need and will allow them to have one less thing to worry about with their baby on the way.

James owns an apartment building in Plattsburgh, New York and upon removing the floor in the living room in one of the units, that it had large cracks and was beginning to settle and become uneven. He also figured that there was a large void under the slab that was causing the settlement.
After a system design specialist visited the living space he proposed to use a PolyLevel injection beneath the concrete slab. This high-density polyurethane foam injection fills the void under the concrete slab and then stabilizes and lifts the sinking area to level the living space. The advantage of PolyLevel is that it's non-invasive, quick installation and cure time, accurate and clean lift, and adjustable for all load sizes. Lastly, he proposed a NexusPro joint sealant that is silicone-based and designed to provide long-lasting flexibility and to stand up to harsh weather conditions.
With these solutions in place, the living space is now level and will make laying new flooring in the unit much more feasible and will ensure the longevity of the foundation in the unit.
Call Northern Basement Systems at 855-DRY-TIME to see if PolyLevel is the best solution for your settling concrete!
