A homeowner in Sheffield, Vermont, contacted Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems seeking a permanent solution to improve the condition of the crawl space beneath their home. The space had exposed earth floors, aging foundation surfaces, and unsealed rim joist areas, allowing moisture and cold outside air to enter beneath the structure.
During the inspection, our team found conditions commonly seen in older Vermont crawl spaces. The exposed dirt floor allowed ground moisture to impact the environment beneath the home, while unsealed upper foundation and rim joist areas created pathways for outside air infiltration. The homeowner wanted a long-term solution that would help isolate and seal the crawl space environment. To address the issues, our crew installed a full CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system throughout the crawl space area. Closed-cell spray foam insulation was also applied along the rim joists and upper foundation areas to help seal gaps and improve the overall protection of the space. The spray foam insulation is tied directly into the CleanSpace® system to help create a more complete crawl space seal beneath the home. By the time the project was complete, the crawl space had been completely transformed. What was once a dark, exposed area became a much cleaner, sealed, and better-protected environment designed to improve the home's overall condition.
