In Burlington, Vermont, a home was taking in quite a bit of water.  The home had a very old, insufficient sump pump, incapable of handling the amount of water entering the basement.  The homeowner set up a free estimate with the waterproofing experts at Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems.  Once a plan was laid out by a system design specialist, a team of professional installers went to work making the once wet basement dry. A perimeter water guard was installed, with a super sump plus sump pump.  The basement is now permanently dry, ready for the owner to enjoy.

An owner of an apartment building in Burlington, Vermont,  wanted to fix the basement, so his tenants could use the area for storage, but something had to be done to eliminate the water entering the basement first.  After a great referral from a local contractor, Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems was hired to turn the wet, nasty basement into a dry, clean space.  Some of the water was entering through the footing of the foundation, while some of the water ran down the bulkhead stairs and flooded under the door, into the basement.  Matt's team installed a Trench Drain at the foot of the bulkhead, along with Water Guard Drainage, and a Super Sump Plus Sump Pump.  The basement is now ready for the tenants to safely store their belongings.

Job Stories From Chittenden County, VT
Burlington, VT Homeowner Takes Action to Protect His Basement from Melting Snow

Like so many others, homeowner Paul L. of Burlington, VT dealt with basement flooding during the winter and spring, when heavy snow would melt, seep into the ground, and his home. Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems had previously inspected his home and provided him with a quote to waterproof his basement. But at the time, Paul felt he could not go forward with the project. He suffered through another year and decided enough was enough. Now was the time for action. He called back waterproofing expert Justin Lanfranconi and told him that he was sick of losing control of his own home and was ready to start repairs!

A highly specialized team of waterproofers lead by foreman showed up at Paul’s Burlington property with the tools needed to secure his basement. The team installed a SuperSump sump pump to remove water. A discharge line equipped with IceGuard protection meant that the water could safely exit Paul’s home no matter the time of year, and the new Lawn Scape outlet offered a safe place to dump this excess water. Paul finally had the peace of mind he had been missing for years!

Because Paul had such a positive experience with Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems, he has already scheduled an appointment with them to have his waterproofing system inspected and services annually. Paul highly recommends the experts at Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems to any Vermont homeowner looking to defend their home against the elements!

SaniDry XP Used to Tackle Humidity in This Burlington, VT Basement

Ronald and Christine T. of Burlington, VT were mostly worried about the humidity of their basement when they first set up an appointment with Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems. And while Northern Basement Systems agreed that the area needed dehumidification, he also realized that without also tackling the basement’s flooding problem, they would never get rid of all the moisture in the space. He suspected that a TripleSafe sump pump, discharge line, and a Lawn Scape drainage outlet would do the trick. Originally the couple only agreed to the installation of a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to dry the area.

Basement Waterproofing & Finishing Solutions Restore Functionality to a Burlington, VT Basement

Wendy F.’s basement in her Burlington home was virtually unusable thanks to dampness. This was not what Wendy had in mind when she bought the house. Desperately wanting to add value back to her home and reclaim the space, Wendy did some searching on Google and came across the website for Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems, a local waterproofing company in Vermont. Impressed with the website, the experience of the employees, and the positive customer reviews, Wendy set an appointment for Matt Clark to come to assess the problem.

In order to return the basement to full use, first, all of the standing water would need to be removed. Northern Basements team installed a WaterGuard XL drainage system, a SuperSump sump pump, and a discharge line equipped with an IceGuard anti-freeze device. A Lawn Scape discharge line outlet was also installed to carry water away from the basement. The basement makeover was completed with ThermalDry floor tiles. To make the space more attractive, Wendy decided to have a SunHouse basement window well installed to help let in natural light.

Because of Matt Clark and his team of waterproofing specialists, Wendy has a basement that goes far beyond just functionality. The basement she envisioned is finally hers!

Colchester, VT Homeowners Protect Finished Basement From Water Damage

Rick and Lorraine B. previously had work done by Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems. After attending a local home show and talking to a representative from the company, the couple decided to hire Northern Basement Systems to finish their basement. Northern Basements team installed ThermalDry sandstone basement floor tiles, and at the time it was the perfect finishing touch! But a few months later, after a hard winter, the couple was faced with a new problem. Water had leaked into the basement. Rick and Lorraine were quick to call Nicholas Farnham, the basement expert who had performed their first inspection. He happily agreed to come back for a second quote on waterproofing the house.

Nicholas discovered that their current sump pump system was faulty and would need to be replaced. This time, owner Matt Clark acted as foreman for their project. He hooked up a SuperSump sump pump and IceGuard to prevent flooding, even in the event that the discharge lines were to freeze. He also added additional indoor drainage lines. These products effectively ended Rick and Lorraine’s water woes!

Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems not only helped Rick and Lorraine attain their ideal basement the first time; the team was there for them again when new issues arose. The couple is very thankful to their team for helping them maintain their home without a hassle!

Homeowner in Colchester, VT Completely Renovate Basement - Now It's Water-Free!

Christine J. had another family member who would be moving into her house in the near future. Unfortunately, there was no extra space in the main part of her home. While a section of her large basement could be perfect, it wasn’t acceptable in its current condition - unfinished and prone to water leakage. Christine decided to hire the basement professionals at Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems to fix her basement. Expert Nicholas Farnham inspected the Colchester home and offered the perfect plan for repair.

Northern Basements team installed a DryTrak baseboard water control system around the perimeter of the entire basement and TrenchDrain basement drains by the door to the outside to collect any water permeating the basement. The waterproofing system also included a Zoeller M53 sump pump and LawnScape Outlet. To finish the room, the team put down ThermalDry charcoal basement floor carpet, which withstands water while creating a cozy atmosphere.

Christine’s new basement was exactly what she needed. She hopes her family member likes the space as much as she does. Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems helped Christine obtain her ideals for a healthy, attractive home.

Water Seeps Through Concrete Foundation in Burlington

In recent years, Ken had been experiencing water damages in his basement. These problems would reoccur around March and April when the ground is still frozen and just starting to thaw. Ken’s house rested on a cinder block foundation. He frequently found that water, supplied by frozen, sandy soil surrounding his foundation, would peel away layers off the cinder blocks and seep into the basement. This year, he decided to prepare for the spring weather by calling Northern Basement Systems.

Northern Basement Systems knew the basement needed a new pump system. They installed a Superpump system with a cast iron pump liner, an Ultrasump battery operated backup pump and a discharge line. The Superpump system and the discharge line work together to collect and channel the water safely to the exterior of the house. However, the job was not completed yet. Since the discharge line is an open airway, just like the ground, the discharge line is susceptible to freezing. The solution was to install an Iceguard to help protect the discharge line. The Iceguard is engineered to eject the water away from the exterior wall in the event that the pipe freezes. It is designed with holes in it to allow this to happen, yet no water at all gets out of these openings when the pipe is not frozen.

With these systems in place, Ken is well-prepared for the upcoming spring season. He has peace of mind and won’t have to worry about a damp basement. A basement problem like this happens all the time all throughout the cold, northern states and Northern Basement Systems is available to help.

Burlington Court House Ramp Needs Leveling

A project manager with the state of Vermont noticed that the court house’s handicap ramp had begun to settle. At the base of the ramp, several sidewalk slabs had also settled leaving the ramp in hazardous conditions and violating safety codes. Fortunately, after doing some research online, this project manager quickly found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems.

The situation called for a PolyLEVEL injection. The experts from Northern Basement Systems found the areas that needed leveling and got right to work. Polyurethane foam is light, yet powerful. After several small holes were drilled into the concrete, the foam was injected beneath the slabs and filled the void where the unsettled soil used to be. As the void filled, the foam pushed downward against the soil, lifting and leveling the concrete slabs back to its original position. Now both the ramp and the slabs at its base are accessible to all.

This project manager did the right thing. Safety is a common priority for any business. Matt Clark and his team of experts hear safety concerns daily. Whether it’s a PolyLEVEL project or any of the other services they offer, Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems is dedicated to helping keep this community safe.

Horizontal Cracks in Basement Wall

Ed started to notice something that happens to many home owners: his basement had started to form horizontal cracks. Horizontal cracks can be an eye sore, but they pose a much bigger threat to a home. When outdoor soil shifts and expands it presses on the wall, causing the wall to crack and bow. As the soil continues to expand, the cracks and bowing get worse, until ultimately the wall slides in. Ed found the solution by calling Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems.

The team at Northern Basement Systems inspected the basement and found a safe and reliable solution. They installed twelve PowerBraces along two walls and a cross beam to add support. These braces, set to the height of the basement wall, were placed against the wall then anchored into the floor. These zinc-plated steel beams combat and contain the pressure of the exterior soil, keeping the wall intact and secure. For a final touch, a cross bream was added to make sure that the shorter of the two walls had adequate support.

Ed can now rest easily knowing that his basement walls won’t bow or slide in. He made the right choice by fixing the problem before it became worse. The experts from Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems are dedicated to helping the local community secure its homes.

Water Seeping Through The Basement Walls

Joy was facing a problem. When a heavy rain came through town, water seeped through her basement walls and trickled down to the floor. She knew that this problem could be fixed. After some research she found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems. Matt Clark and his team of experts have seen this problem occur many times through the years and knew just what to do.

The experts from Northern Basement Systems installed their WaterGuard system. This gutter-like design separates itself from the soil under your floor so it will never clog. Weep holes were drilled into the block walls to drain water out from the walls and into the WaterGuard system. Once the water was collected, it needed somewhere to go. So the experts installed a TripleSafe pump system which included a 1/3 horsepower cast iron primary AC pump, a ½ horsepower cast iron AC back-up pump and an UltraSump battery back-up pumping system. The TripleSafe pump and WaterGuard systems then channeled the water through a discharge line, ultimately disposing it to the outdoor surface.

Now Joy doesn’t have to worry about water on her basement floors. The in-place system drains the unseen water safely away. Matt Clark’s team has seen this problem again and again and they’ll be happy to help anyone who has a similar situation.

Crawlspace Water Seepage Solution in Essex Junction, VT

Deb was experiencing some crawlspace issues. The crawlspace, which was adjacent to her basement, was taking in water. There was little access to the crawlspace so it was difficult to assess the damages and implement a solution. She had to turn to someone who specializes in crawlspaces. After doing some online research she linked up with Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems.

Matt Clark and his team of experts reviewed the situation. This crawlspace called for insulation removal, installation of a Smartpump, a discharge line, a series of CleanSpace Drainage Matting and a SaniDry CX Air system. Once everything was in place, the pump pushed the water out of the crawlspace and through a discharge line, ultimately leading to the outdoor surface. The SaniDry CX Air system helps to keep the crawlspace’s humidity level low. All this was achieved by accessing the crawlspace through a window.

Matt Clark and his team of experts can traverse through nearly any crawlspace. They know how to stop water seepage in its tracks and make sure that it doesn’t come back. If you’ve got a crawlspace problem, Matt Clark is the right guy for the job!

Increasing Home Value With A Basement Upgrade

Rachel was getting ready for a big step in her life: selling her house. She had one impediment before should could put it on the market, the basement. The basement experienced leaks from time to time. She didn’t want this to deter a potential buyer so she contacted Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems.

Matt Clark’s team of experts went to the house to evaluate the situation. After spotting the leaks, the team knew that they could help her out. For a long-term solution, the experts decided to install DryTrak and a TripleSafe pump system. The TripleSafe pump system includes three pumps, a primary powerful pump and two backup pumps in case of a power failure. The DryTrak system runs alongside the base of the basement walls and collects incoming water and channels it directly into the TripleSafe pump system. From there, the water is pumped to the outdoor surface through a discharge line. With all the installations set in place, the basement will be dry for many years to come.

Rachel did what so many home owners have done before her, and she won’t be the last. Having a safe, dry basement can make any home’s value increase.  Fixing a basement problem may seem like a daunting task but Matt Clark and his team of knowledgeable experts are here to help!

Putting A Bowing Wall In Its Rightful Place in Milton, VT

Chris had a big problem facing his house. One of the basement walls had begun to bow. He wondered what was causing this bow and wondered what he could do to fix it. After looking online, he found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems.

Matt Clark and his team of experts knew exactly what was causing the wall to bow. It was the soil just outside the basement that was expanding and putting pressure on the wall. When the wall bows too much, the whole wall can slide in putting the entire house in jeopardy. The best course of action was to install eight PowerBraces along the basement wall. The PowerBrace is a steel I-beam that can adjust to any basement’s height. Once a PowerBrace is anchored into the ceiling and ground, it will fix any bowing wall and over time, force the bowed wall sections back to their original positions.

Chris made the right call by reaching out to Matt Clark and his experts. They’ve seen many cracked and bowed walls and know how to handle them safely and securely. If you’ve got a bowing wall like Chris and so many others, don’t wait to call! Matt Clark can help fix the situation before it becomes dangerous.

A Warmer Basement Floor with ThermalDry Tiles

James was tired of walking on a hard, cold floor in his basement. He knew he had several options but wasn’t sure which one to pursue. He did some research online and found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems and decided to give them a call.

After conversing, the best solution for James’ basement was to lay down ThermalDry tile. The ThermalDry tile was explicitly designed for basement floors. Each tile sits on raised, plastic pegs that allow the airspace underneath to circulate water vapor. When the water vapor dries out, the flooring becomes eight to ten degrees warmer than the concrete below it. Matt Clark and his experts also let James know that the ThermalDry tiles will never rot, support mold growth, or release foul-smelling odors. The tiles are made from inorganic material so that way they won’t be damaged by a plumbing leak or basement floods. With five patterns to pick among, it’s easy to find a model that works for any basement. In James’ case, he chose the wood-like parquet style.

James won’t have to worry about walking on a hard, cold basement floor anymore. Matt Clark highly recommends the ThermalDry floor tiles for your basement. Give him a free call for a free estimate!

Basement Water Seepage? No Problem For The Experts

Elma had a problem that most homeowners experience: occasional basement water. She wasn’t sure what to do. She asked around and was eventually referred to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems. After getting a free estimate, Elma decided to hire Matt Clark and his experts.

The experts from Northern Basement Systems took a look around and knew just what to do. They had to address several concerns. The first being how to control the water that was entering the basement. This was done by installing the Basement System’s WaterGuard system. This gutter-like system collects the water from the base of the wall. The second concern was how to get that water out of the basement. The experts installed a TripleSafe pump system. This system uses a primary pump along with two backup pumps, in case the power goes out, to channel the collected water through a discharge line that leads straight to the outdoor surface. Finally, the CleanSpace Wall System was installed. This final touch makes the basement walls look fresh and clean.

Elma can rest easily knowing that her basement will stay safe and dry. Matt Clark is an expert in the basement field. He has seen it all. Are you in a tough spot with your basement? Give Matt Clark a call and he’d be happy to come and help you through any situation you may have.

What Happens To Your Pump During A Power Failure?

Reg knows the importance of having a sump pump installed. Basement water seepage happens to homeowners all across New England. That’s why it’s important to be prepared to pump that water right back to the outdoors. Reg already knows this, there's only one thing that can stop this system from working, a power failure. If the sump pump stops, water will build up and the system will be backlogged with water. Since Reg already knows this, he decided to get a backup, battery-operated pump from Matt Clark’s Northern Basement System.

Matt Clark and his experts installed their UltraSump pumping system. The UltraSump can pump out an excess of 11,500 gallons of water on a fully charged battery. For perspective, that’s enough water to fill a small swimming pool. This pump also comes with an advanced alarm system that can sound off when a power failure occurs. This alarm has home security compatibility so you can be notified of a power failure by phone.

Reg is well protected against the water elements. He has been proactive about his basement’s safety. Matt Clark and his team are always happy to help the Shelburne community.

Water Entering The Basement Through A Cracked Floor

Donna had a problem that most homeowners experience: occasional basement water. She saw it coming through cracks in the floor and wasn’t sure what to do. She asked around and was eventually referred to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems. After getting a free estimate, Donna decided to hire Matt Clark and his experts.

The experts from Northern Basement Systems took a look around and knew just what to do. They had to address several concerns. The first being how to control the water that was entering the basement. The second concern was how to get the water out of the basement. The experts installed a SuperSump pump. This pump channels the collected water through a discharge line which disposes it to the outdoor surface. There was one final issue to address. Since the discharge line is an open tunnel to the outdoors, it must be protected from freezing. The experts installed their IceGuard system that is designed to do just that.

Donna can rest easily knowing that her basement will stay safe and dry. Matt Clark is an expert in the basement field. He has seen it all. Are you in a tough spot with your basement? Give Matt Clark a call and he’d be happy to come and help you through any situation you may have.

Chimney Repair Project

Andrew had a big concern. He saw that his chimney was forming a crack. Overtime, the crack grew bigger and the chimney had started to separate from his house. Andrew took action right away and called Matt Clark at Northern Basement Systems. Matt Clark gladly agreed to come help.

After looking at the gap between the chimney and the brick house wall, Matt Clark knew just what to do. He and his experts had to install four helical pier brackets. Before the brackets could be installed, the soil around the chimney had to be excavated in order to reach the chimney’s foundation. Once the area was excavated and the brackets were installed, a steel rod was hydraulically pushed through each bracket. Each rod pierced through the settled soil until a layer of sturdy earth was reached. The pressure of the rod then lifts the chimney back to its original position.

Andrew avoided a dangerous situation. When soil settles, it sinks. This takes whatever rests on top of it down with it. This can cause major threats to any foundation. Luckily Matt Clark and his team of experts have the helical pier system. Check out the pictures of this chimney project, they’re listed above!

SuperSump Installation Makes For A Dry, Safe Basement

Negesse had a problem that many homeowners have to deal with: the basement kept flooding after a snowfall or a heavy rain storm. This problem wasn’t going to go away and in fact, during the spring thaw, it would get worse. Negesse reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems for a free estimate and shortly after tagged them for the job.

Matt Clark and his experts examined the situation and knew what to do. They installed their patented WaterGuard system, a SuperSump pump system with a discharge line and a TrenchDrain. The WaterGuard system helps gather the incoming water and sends it to the pump. The SuperSump pump channels the water through the discharge line and to the surface of the outdoors. The TrenchDrain system helped channel any excess water into the SuperSump pump as well. With all these installations in place, Negesse’s basement was in great shape.

No longer will Negesse have to dread heavy rain fall or the spring thawing season. Negesse can rest easily knowing that the basement will stay safe and dry. Matt Clark is an expert in all things regarding basements. If you’ve got a concern about your basement, reach out to Matt Clark for a free estimate.

Crawlspaces Get CleanSpace Facelift

Scott wanted to seal his two crawl spaces. He wanted both of them to have the walls and dirt completely sealed off. After doing some research online he found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems. Matt Clark and his team of experts were happy to help.

Matt and his team of experts have seen hundreds of crawlspaces throughout their careers. They installed their CleanSpace crawlspace encapsulation system on the walls along with their CleanSpace Drainage Matting under the CleanSpace liner. These installations helped reduced the humidity levels in the air which will help prevent mold growth and rot from the two crawl spaces. When the crawlspaces are in good condition, the whole house becomes healthier.

Scott made the right choice by sealing off his crawlspaces. He won’t have to worry about condensation, mold or structural damages that could take place in the future. Matt Clark and his team of experts are always happy to help out with any crawlspace problems.

Stopping The Bowing Wall Threat in Winooski, VT

Silas witnessed a problem that was getting progressively worse. One of the walls in his basement was bowing. At first, the problem didn’t seem like an urgent matter. Over time, it became progressively worse and Silas knew something had to be done. He reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems for help.

Bowing walls, particularly in the basement, are an extreme risk to anyone’s home. Walls start to bow due to the increasing pressure from outdoor soil as it shifts and expands. If the soil pushes the wall to its breaking point, the wall will slide in and put the entire foundation at risk. Knowing this, Matt Clark and his team got right to work. They installed five PowerBraces alongside the bowing wall. These PowerBraces were zinc plated to prevent rusting. They helped stabilize the wall immediately.

Silas was wise to reach out to Matt Clark before the wall got worse. He can rest easily knowing that his foundation is safe and secure. If you have a bowing wall, call Matt Clark for a free estimate, he’d be happy to help the problem before it gets any worse.

Stopping A Bowing Basement Wall From Caving In

Liz was facing a problem: one of her basement walls had begun to bow. This is more of a common problem than most people think. It is a result of shifting and expanding soil from the other side of the basement wall. As the soil expands, it puts pressure on the wall. Too much pressure on the wall and it could slide in all together, putting the entire foundation at risk.

Knowing how dangerous the situation could become, she knew it was time to reach out to professionals. After doing some research she found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems. When Matt and his team of experts arrived at Liz’s home, they inspected the situation and knew just what to do. They installed eight Power Braces. These Power Braces, set to the height of the basement wall, were placed against the wall and were anchored into the floor. These zinc-plated steel rods will combat and contain the pressure of the exterior soil, keeping the wall intact and secure.

Liz was smart about being proactive about this problem. Never again will she have to worry about her basement walls caving in. If you’ve got a bowing wall, don’t wait until it’s too late, give Matt Clark a call and he’ll be happy to help your basement needs.

Keeping the Community Center Safe & Dry

The basement in the Jericho Community Center had started to take on water. The Center knew that this could become a safety hazard so they reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems for help. When Matt and his team of experts arrived on the site, they knew just what to do.

The experts installed a TripleSafe pump system with a discharge line, their Waterguard system, an Iceguard and their Cleanspace Liner. The Waterguard system collects the water from the base of the basement walls and pushes it to the TripleSafe pump system. TripleSafe, which is a combination of three pumps, one pump is a primary pump, accompanied by two backup-battery powered pumps, then pumps the water through a discharge line. The water is safely disposed of at a safe distance to the outdoor surface. The discharge line is an open airway to the outdoors, therefore an Iceguard system was installed to keep it from freezing during the winter.

The Community Center won’t have to worry about having a wet basement anymore. Matt Clark and his team of experts are dedicated to helping the Jericho community stay safe and dry. Find out what Mark Clark can do for you.

Keeping The Duplex Basement Dry

Molly owns property in Richmond. She wanted to increase the value and safety of a duplex that she owned by installing a sump pump and a wall system. She had several local vendors in mind but ultimately reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems.

Mark Clark and his team of experts went out to inspect the duplex’s basement and knew what to install. They installed their SuperSump pump system, equipped with a cast iron pump, a liner, an airtight lid, an airtight floor drain and a WaterWatch alarm system. The experts surrounded the basement with their Waterguard system. This gutter-like device collects and pushes the incoming water to the pump. From the pump, the water is pushed through a discharge line safely away from the building. The final touch was to install a CleanSpace wall system to keep the basement safe and dry.

Molly made the right decision. Matt Clark helped increase the value of her property while also making sure that it stays dry. Matt Clark has served the Richmond area many times and is always happy to help this community.

However, he did know that a bowing wall is a big threat. So he decided to get professional help. After doing some research, he contacted Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems.

Matt Clark and his experts explained why the wall was bowing. When the soil just beyond the basement wall starts to shift and expand, it puts immense pressure on the wall. When enough pressure is applied the wall begins to crack and bow. If too much pressure is applied, the wall could cave in all together putting the entire house at risk! So Matt Clark and the experts got right to work by installing two PowerBraces and joist reinforcements to support those PowerBraces. These Power Braces, set to the height of the basement wall, were placed against the wall and were anchored into the floor. These zinc-plated steel rods will combat and contain the pressure of the exterior soil, keeping the wall intact and secure.

Patrick won’t have to worry about his wall caving in anymore. The team of experts has given him a permanent peace of mind. Matt Clark has seen many bowing walls throughout his career. He knows the severity of the job and takes it seriously. If you’ve got a similar bowing wall situation, don’t wait until it’s too late. Give Matt Clark a call today!

A Healthy Humidity Level For this Richmond Crawlspace

Louisa reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems with a particular question in mind. She wanted to know what would be an appropriate level of humidity for her crawlspace. Matt told her to monitor the humidity levels both in the crawlspace and outdoors as well. She called back the next day and reported the readings inside averaged around 68%, while the outdoor average was about 35%. They both agreed that something had to be done.

Matt Clark and his experts went to Louisa’s house to take a look at her crawlspace. After inspecting the area, they decided to install their SaniDry dehumidifier, CleanSpace Liner, and CLeanSpace Drainage Matting. The CleanSpace keeps the enclosed area’s temperature controlled. The SaniDry unit helps not only keep the humidity level low but regulates the levels in case it gets too small. The goal for any crawlspace is to have a healthy level of humidity. With these and just a few other installations in place, Louisa’s crawlspace fosters a healthy humidity level.

Matt Clark is an expert in all things regarding basements. He has seen hundreds of crawlspaces and knows how to analyze and treat each one. Louisa made the right choice. She can rest comfortably, knowing that her crawlspace will be safe and dry.

Dealing With Pesky Basement Water in Sourth Burlington, VT

Jeff had lived in his house for four years before having a basement problem. He began experiencing water entering his basement. After looking online, he found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems and decided to give them a call.

Jeff’s problem occurs all the time, to thousands of homeowners. As the outdoor soil unfreezes, it can seep through concrete foundations, putting Jeff’s belongings at risk of being damage. Matt Clark and his team knew just what to do. The experts installed a TripleSafe pump system with a discharge line, their Waterguard system, an Iceguard and their Cleanspace Liner. The Waterguard system collects the water from the base of the basement walls and pushes it to the TripleSafe pump system. TripleSafe, which is a combination of three pumps, one pump is a primary pump, accompanied by two backup-battery powered pumps, the primary pump channels the water through a discharge line. The water is safely disposed of at a safe distance to the outdoor surface.

Jeff made the right choice by calling Matt Clark. Sometimes basement water doesn’t seem like a big deal but the experts know that it can lead to many more problems down the road including mold growth, property damage, bug inhabitance and many more. Now Jeff can rest easily knowing that his basement will be safe and dry.

Sump Pumps & ThermalDry Make For A Healthy South Burlington Basement

Eric was experiencing basement water. He reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems for several kinds of solutions.

Foundation failed

The team Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems was en route to this property when the call came in from our client. Her existing basement wall already bowed in from hydrostatic pressure and mother nature, collapsed. Our priority was to get the foundation stable. Matt's team quickly called Dig Safe. They provided us with the locations of danger, such as electrical wires, so we would not hit them while doing the excavation. We got up there the next day to asses the situation. It was a complete disaster. The weight of the wall crushed her furnace, among other things in the basement. The team installed smart jacks to support the main carrying beam. We reconstructed the wall of the foundation then applied Tamko, a waterproofing membrane used for below-grade foundations. The next step was the installation of power braces to further the support of the new wall and foundation. The homeowner now can rest at ease, knowing her foundation walls are currently supported.

Commercial Building

This property is a commercial building located in South Burlington, VT. The owner contacted Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems in regards to a concrete slab that had settled approximately four inches on the Southside. After assessing the situation, we also noticed that the foundation had settled with it. The options for repair were to utilize one of the FOUNDATION SUPPORTWORKS pier systems. The helical pier which is also known as a helical pile or the hydraulic push pier. We also performed soil tests to see how far we would have to go down to reach load-bearing strata.  After consulting with a local engineer, the push pier was determined to be the right fix. We ended up going down between 27-35 feet to reach that level. Also, in conjunction with our PolyLevel, Northern Basements installed twenty-four foundation piers, forty-eight slab piers, and the void filled with our PolyLevel injection foam.

Super Sump Pump, SaniDRy Dehumidifier, & Water Guard in Richmond, Vermont

The home owners wonderful home is nestled in the beautiful mountains of Richmond, Vermont.  Plenty of privacy and amazing views.  The basement on the other hand was just a mess and a constant nuisance to the home owner.  Water would get in the basement and make it a very unusable space.  Plus the humidity was high enough that a very good consumer brand model couldn't keep up with it at all.  They look far and long to find someone to help them out and finally came across Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems.

After a conversation with the home owner and a site inspection Northern Basement sent out a team to put a permanent fix on the home owners basement issues.  They installed a full Water Guard perimeter System, a Super Sump Pump. and a State of the Art SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier.  The Water Guard will take the water and redirect it to the Super Sump Pump.  The Super Sump Pump then takes the water and pumps it out of the basement to a discharge line out and away from the home.  The SaniDry Dehumidifier is a state of the art dehumidifier.   It's the world's most efficient, high-performance dehumidifier, without a bulky heat exchange core.  It will keep your basement below 55%, so mold won't stand a chance.  as a high-efficiency ENERGY STAR certified dehumidifier, the Sedona removes more moisture(100 pints per day) for less electricity cost than conventional models.  The Sedona also drains automatically into your Water Guard. The home owner can rest at ease now and has a wonderful permanent dry basement.

Lake Side Sinking Slab in Burlington, Vermont

In 2015 Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems were called to evaluate cracks in sheetrock & wood floors that were buckling. When Northern Basement Inspector arrived, they found that the foundation was a Frost wall with a slab at grade.  To get the information needed for the job, soil boring tests were needed. The difficulty with this was it was inside, and the concrete slab had radiant heat after using a thermal imaging camera.  We drilled two holes and performed Boring.  Results came back with decaying organic matter 9 feet under the slab that was not removed during construction.  The repair consisted of a support work slab pier, hydraulically driven to a suitable soil resistance.  The 3,800 sq ft home had to be demoed, which was a huge undertaking for the homeowner; a total of 119 slab piers were installed to support the entire slab.  The slab consisted of 6-2" thickness.  Piers was droved down up to 23 feet below the slab.  Before slab outcome slab was lifted back to original elevation, about 2 & 1/4" lift in slabs.

Bowing Walls in Underhill, Vermont Basement

A customer in Underhill, Vermont was in need of a solution for a wall in their basement.  The wall was showing signs of bowing.  It also was getting water coming down the wall, leading to water in their garage.  They contacted Matt Clark's Northern Basement System at 855-DRY-TIME, in hope of a permanent solution.  Matt sent out one of his System Design Specialist to access the situation.  After going through a serious of tests and evaluations the conclusion was to install a PowerBrace Foundation Wall Repair System to fix the wall.  The PowerBrace is a patented foundation wall repair system that's designed to stabilize failing basement walls and provide the potential to straighten walls over time.  These steel i-beams will stabilize the wall in its current position without any further adjustment. Over time, the PowerBrace System can be tightened to make bowing walls straighter. Sub-par I-beam systems will rust and deteriorate over time. The PowerBrace system includes a zinc-coating that protects it from this kind of corrosion.

For the water situation they decided to put up CleanSpace paired with a WaterGuard System.  The CleanSpace will perform as a vapor barrier and make the water flow into the newly installed WaterGuard.  The WaterGuard, which is under the concrete, will then direct the water to a floor drain.  The floor drain will take the water to a discharge line away from the home.  The homeowner now can rest at ease with their wall properly supported and water no longer invading their basement garage.
