The owners of a wonderful home in Montpelier, Vermont were looking for a solution for insulating their basement walls.  They had already gutted their basement and are planning on completely remodeling it.  They gave Matt Clark's Northern Basement a call at 1-800-DRY-TIME and asked what they could do to help them.  One of Matt's System Specialist suggested using our Basement to Beautiful Wall Panels.  The panels are designed with the unique, advanced SilverGlo™ graphite-infused foam insulation, this insulation provides 24% more energy-saving than conventional foam. At 2 ½" thick and R-13 insulation, Basement To Beautiful™ panels create a warm, protective blanket around your basement that will never rot or support mold growth. To help save the customers money, time, and hassle, electrical chases are designed directly into the Basement To Beautiful™ system. This way, there is no need for you to have an electrician to come in to rough in the wiring, then return to complete the job later. It can all be done in one step after the finished panels are installed.  The customers now have warm walls that are ready for their next steps in finishing their basement.

Basement To Beautiful in Montpelier, Vermont

The customers in Montpelier, Vermont were in the process of remodeling their basement.  They were in search of a solution for their cold walls.  They contacted the experts at Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems at 1-800-DRY-TIME and expressed their needs to one of our System Specialist and Master Carpenters.                                                              After talking to the team at Northern Basements the customer decided to go with Northern Basments' Basement to Beautiful Wall Panels.  The Basement To Beautiful™ panels have been designed with SilverGlo™ insulation -- an expanded polystyrene foam insulation. SilverGlo™ is created with a unique graphite infusion process that improves its insular ability by an incredible 24% over comparable foam insulation products. When finished with a wall paneling, the basement insulation will meet International Code Requirements, with an R-13 insulation rating. Our basement wall insulation is created with inorganic materials so that it will never support the growth of mold, mildew, or rot. There's no wooden studs, drywall, or fiberglass to grow mold. Instead, the system is designed to attach directly to your basement walls. Metal studs are integrated with the foam -- and do not touch the concrete basement walls through the foam. The unique stud design allows Basement To Beautiful™ panels to avoid a major design flaw of traditional studs. Typical stud designs require the insulation layer to be broken at intervals to allow for the studs to be built. At these points, studs made with thermally conductive materials will transfer heat from your home to the cold concrete walls. In the case of Basement To Beautiful™ panels, the studs leave 2" of uninterrupted insulation behind them, so they don't compromise the thermal blanket on your basement walls. The studs will never touch these walls, and this heat transfer never occurs! To save our customer time and hassle, for when they finish remodeling, electrical chases are designed directly into the Basement To Beautiful™ system. This way, there is no need for an electrician to come in to rough in the wiring, then return to complete the job later. It can all be done in one step after the finished panels are installed.

Montpelier, VT Basement Damaged by Hurricane Irene Gets the Right Repairs

Christopher K.’s unfinished basement suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Irene, but he could not afford to immediately deal with the problem. After a long winter in Montpelier made the water leakage problem in his basement worse, Christopher decided that he could not endure a rainy spring or another winter without securing his basement’s permeability. He called in Matt Clark from Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems for a free estimate to fix the space.

As a result of the inspection, Matt concluded that Christopher’s unfinished basement would need protection internally and externally to stay clean and dry. Northern Basements team got started right away. The first step was to expel the water that was currently in the basement. A SuperSump sump pump and discharge line with IceGuard anti-freeze protection would do the trick. Next, the interior of the basement needed to be protected against water seepage and groundwater. CleanSpace drainage matting was installed to collect water that would otherwise be trapped beneath the surface of the CleanSpace liner. The liner also helps to keep the interior bright and – most importantly – dry!

Christopher could not be more pleased with the work done on his home. Dealing with a natural disaster is never easy, but with the right help, it becomes less daunting. Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems was the perfect partner for Christopher, and together they made his basement healthy and usable again!

Leaky Basement Wall Solved with DryTrak Installation in Montpelier, VT

Elizabeth W., a Montpelier, VT homeowner, contacted Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems with a water seepage problem. She was convinced that a wall in the basement was causing the problem, and wanted to have a specialist inspect the area. Waterproofing expert Justin Lanfranconi arrived at Elizabeth’s house soon after, ready for the challenge!

After Justin assessed the damage to Elizabeth’s basement, he told foreman Matt Ostrout his plan to get restore the basement back to health. The plan for repair included installing a DryTrak basement water drainage system, specially designed for monolithic foundations. The patented DryTrak system will capture the water coming down from the wall and the TrenchDrain channel drain would collect pooled water near the basement door. The water from these would be redirected to a SuperSump sump pump. All in all, Elizabeth’s new waterproofing system stops any further damage to her basement by doing what it’s meant to do – keep water out!

Thanks to the experts at Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems, Elizabeth can now enjoy a dry, healthy basement. Whenever a friend or family member has a similar problem, Elizabeth is happy to recommend the Vermont waterproofers.

Flooding Problem in Montpelier, VT Tire Shop Solved in One Day

Water damage in a residential property is never fun for any homeowner. But when a business owner has to deal with the same problem, getting quick and effective repairs are crucial for continued commercial success. Damaged merchandise or a lengthy project can cost the owner time and money that they cannot afford. This is exactly the situation that this Montpelier tire shop owner faced. After researching waterproofing companies online, Patty contacted Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems for a free estimate. Owner Matt Clark came out to conduct an inspection and provide a no-obligation estimate for repair.

During the inspection, Matt discovered that the damage was coming from a faulty pump. He suggested installing a SuperLiner sump pump basic, equipped with an airtight sump pump cover. Foreman Refik Bahonjic and his crew completed the entire installation in just one day, which allowed Patty to get the tire shop back up-and-running in no time!

Patty is thankful that the crew at Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems was able to solve her problem quickly and effectively. She knows where to turn for all of her future waterproofing needs!

I am the program manager for the Healthy & Lead-Safe Homes Program at the VT Housing and Conservation Board. For participants enrolled in our lead program, we also provide healthy homes grant awards (funded through a HUD grant). If potential health and safety hazards other than lead are identified our program tries to mitigate those hazards at no cost to the homeowner/property owner. We have an enrolled property in East Barre that requires an assessment to determine if there is a need for a vapor barrier and if so, what that would cost. Further, we are wondering if your company assists with structural concerns? There may be a need for a support beam in the basement. Thank you!

Do you do exterior waterproofing? I'm trying to budget for next spring/summer projects on a home we just purchased, and am primarily interested in exterior waterproofing and drain tile on the back/hillside wall (1) of a raised ranch. Thanks!

Pedestal sump pump is old and needs a replacement. There is also lots of backflow after pump is used.

Water coming into the basement. Yesterday's thaw - 70ยบ - brought water into my bomb shelter. A hard rain that lasts a few days will do that too. The water is NOT coming down the wallsa inside but appears to be coming in where the wall and floor meet. Anyway, time to see what it takes to fix the problem.

I have an old farmhouse with a laid stone foundation (inside is covered with spray foam). Basement is about 20X25. Soil is heavy clay. Current system is a portable sump pump in a hole in a poured concrete floor. System works (usually) to keep the water from rising in the basement, but I'd like to explore options for something more reliable and effective.

Effervescence on interior and exterior foundation. Flaking on interior walls. Cracks.
Vicinity of North College Street in Montpelier
We have a block basement with a concrete floor poured over ledge so that the basement slopes from around 2 feet deep on one side to 8 feet on the other side of the house. We have moisture problems from multiple sources. Negative grading on one side of the house is an obvious contributor, however, we only own 10 feet and ledge is directly below the soil, limiting any grading work we can do. Even on the side of the house with steep grading away from the house, we still get water coming in along the bottom of the wall and significant efflorescence and drippy walls. The soil in our area is heavy clay. We need a solution for our basement moisture and the resulting moldy air and moisture collecting in our attic causing the roof decking to mold. We also have a wall on our attached garage that is bowing inward. We would love to have someone come out and look at these issue and see what can be done and for what cost. Thanks, Anna
