Basement Waterproofing System for an Older Stone Foundation Home in Keene Valley, NY | Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems
Challenge
This Keene Valley, New York, home had an older basement with a combination of stone foundation walls, block repair areas, dirt-floor sections, and uneven ground conditions. These types of basements are common in older homes throughout the Northeast, but they can be difficult to keep dry without the right drainage and sump system in place.
The homeowner needed a better way to manage water entering or collecting in the basement. Without a dedicated system, water can spread across the floor, increase humidity, damage stored items, and make the basement harder to use or maintain. During the inspection, the Northern Basement Systems team reviewed the foundation, basement floor conditions, and areas where water was most likely to collect. The basement had tight access points, exposed stonework, and open floor areas that required a practical waterproofing approach.
The inspection showed that the home needed a system that could collect water from inside the basement and discharge it safely away from the foundation. Because of the home's layout and age, controlling the flow of water was a key part of the solution.
Solution
Northern Basement Systems installed a basement waterproofing system designed to collect water from the basement and direct it to a sump pump. The system helps prevent water from pooling in the basement and provides a controlled route for groundwater to exit the home.
A discharge line was installed from the sump system to the exterior of the home. Outside, the line was directed to a drainage outlet that releases water away from the foundation. This helps reduce the chance of water being pumped out only to return toward the basement.
- Sump Pump System: Installed to collect water from the basement waterproofing system and pump it out of the home.
- Interior Drainage System: Designed to capture water inside the basement and direct it toward the sump pump before it can spread across the floor.
- Discharge Line: Carries pumped water from the sump system to the outside of the home.
- Exterior Drainage Outlet: Helps release discharged water away from the foundation in a controlled location.
The basement now has a more reliable way to manage water. Instead of allowing water to collect in low spots or flow uncontrolled through the basement, the system collects it, pumps it out, and directs it away from the home. For an older stone foundation home, this type of waterproofing system can make a major difference in protecting the basement from ongoing moisture issues.
