Challenge
Water was entering the basement of this West Hartford, Vermont, home, creating wet, damp conditions. The homeowner needed a reliable way to capture incoming water before it could spread across the basement floor. Controlling humidity was also important, and any water removed from the basement needed to be discharged far enough away from the foundation to complete the waterproofing process. Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems evaluated the basement and determined that an interior perimeter drainage system would provide a dedicated pathway for incoming water. The waterproofing design also incorporated a multi-pump sump system, automatic humidity control, and an exterior discharge system designed for northern New England conditions.
Solution
WaterGuard® was installed along the basement perimeter to collect incoming water and direct it to the sump. Our crew installed a TripleSafe® Sump Pump System to remove water collected in the basement. A SaniDry™ dehumidifier was added to automatically control excess moisture in the basement air. Outside the home, IceGuard® was incorporated into the sump discharge line to provide an emergency outlet if the buried line freezes or becomes blocked. The underground discharge line then carries pumped water away from the home and terminates at a LawnScape™ outlet.
Products Installed
• WaterGuard® — An interior perimeter drainage system installed beneath the edge of the basement floor and on top of the foundation footing. WaterGuard captures incoming water and directs it toward the sump pump system.
• TripleSafe® Sump Pump System — A multi-pump sump system that provides additional pumping capacity when needed and includes battery-backup protection for continued operation during a power outage.
• SaniDry™ Dehumidifier — A high-performance basement dehumidification system that automatically removes excess moisture from the air to help maintain appropriate humidity levels.
• IceGuard® — Provides an emergency discharge point for sump water if the buried exterior discharge line freezes or becomes blocked.
• LawnScape™ Outlet — A discreet outlet installed at the end of the buried discharge line that releases pumped water away from the foundation.
Water entering the basement now flows into WaterGuard and is directed to the TripleSafe system for removal, rather than spreading across the floor. SaniDry provides ongoing humidity control, while the IceGuard and LawnScape discharge components help ensure that pumped water is carried away from the home. The completed WaterGuard, TripleSafe, SaniDry, IceGuard, and LawnScape system provides this West Hartford homeowner with a comprehensive approach to basement water and moisture management designed for dependable, long-term protection.
