Two-Stage Waterproofing System Installed in South Burlington, Vermont
Challenge
This South Burlington, Vermont homeowner had a sump that was beginning to fail, and cause flooding in his partly finished basement. A local contractor recommended the professionals at Northern Basement Systems for a lasting solution.
We provided a FREE ESTIMATE from one of our trained system design specialists. They do a full walkthrough of the inside and outside of the basement, take some measurements, then provide the homeowner with a project proposal to alleviate the homeowner's concerns.
Solution
Our team recommended and installed several systems to help ensure that the basement stays dry and warm, year-round! To waterproof this basement, the specialist recommended the two-stage waterproofing system. The foundation is monolithic, meaning that we are unable to install WaterGuard product around the perimeter like we would for a traditional foundation footing. In this case, we install DryTrak Monolithic Floor Drain around the perimeter of the foundation, to collect any water attempting to enter the basement from behind the foundation wall. To pair with this drainage, we recommended a full perimeter CleanSpace Wall System to prevent water and humidity from entering any cracks in the wall. In addition to the DryTrak drainage, we also recommend a WaterGuard Drainage System around the perimeter floor, away from the walls to capture hydrostatic water that is under the foundation. With these two perimeter drainage systems, will collect water outside the foundation to prevent it from entering the basement.
Once the water is collected the TripleSafe Sump Pump System will pump out the water. This system is composed of three pumps; a primary pump, a secondary pump, and an Ultra sump battery back-up pump, to ensure the basement stays dry through power outages, pump failure, tripped breaker, or heavy waters. This pump system is complete with a discharge line, IceGuard to protect against a frozen discharge line, and a LawnScape outlet to disperse the water at the end of the discharge line.
Lastly, we installed an Energy Efficient SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier to reduce humidity and filter the air in the home to create a healthier space and prevent the growth of mold.
