Crawl Space Encapsulation & Structural Support in Goshen, New Hampshire | Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems
Challenge
A homeowner in Goshen, New Hampshire, was dealing with a damp, unsealed crawl space that had begun to impact both the comfort and stability of the home. The space had exposed earth and persistent moisture, especially during wet weather. Over time, the homeowner also noticed uneven floors above, indicating that the support system beneath the home was no longer performing as it should. The crawl space environment was contributing to both humidity concerns and structural stress. During our inspection, we identified ground moisture as a constant source of humidity within the crawl space. Without a vapor barrier, moisture was freely entering and lingering in the space. In addition, several areas of the floor system lacked adequate support, leading to sagging and uneven surfaces above. While the issues were connected, they required a combined approach to fully correct both the environmental and structural concerns.
Solution
To address the moisture problem, we installed a full CleanSpace encapsulation system. This included a durable vapor barrier applied across the ground and along the crawl space walls, effectively sealing the area from moisture in the soil. A drainage solution was also implemented to manage any water entering the space and direct it away from the home.
To restore proper support, we installed a SmartJack system beneath the affected areas of the home. These adjustable steel supports were carefully positioned to stabilize the floor system and help bring it back toward its original level. The crawl space is now dry, sealed, and properly supported. Moisture levels have been significantly reduced, and the environment beneath the home is now controlled and reliable. The floors above feel noticeably more stable, and the homeowner no longer experiences the unevenness that had developed over time. This Goshen, New Hampshire, project highlights the importance of addressing both moisture and structural concerns within a crawl space. By combining encapsulation with targeted support, we delivered a comprehensive solution that improves both the home's condition and the comfort of those living in it.
