Crawl Space Winterization & Encapsulation in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire | Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems
Challenge
A homeowner in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire, was dealing with a small crawl space that had exposed earth floors, debris buildup, and unsealed foundation surfaces. The crawl space was vulnerable to moisture, cold outside air, and the common temperature fluctuations in Northern New Hampshire homes. The homeowner wanted a permanent solution to help isolate the home from the crawl space environment while improving energy efficiency and overall protection beneath the home. After inspecting the crawl space, our team found exposed dirt floors and unfinished crawl space surfaces that were allowing ground moisture and humid air to enter the area beneath the home. The crawl space lacked proper sealing and insulation, especially around the rim joists, where outside air could freely enter the home. Debris throughout the crawl space and on unprotected foundation surfaces further contributed to the unfinished, vulnerable conditions beneath the home.
Solution
To help improve and protect the crawl space environment, our team installed:
- CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system
- Full vapor barrier coverage across the crawl space floor
- Encapsulation along the crawl space perimeter surfaces
- Closed-cell spray foam insulation along the rim joists
- Sealed transition between the CleanSpace® system and spray foam insulation
- Moisture and air sealing system designed to help isolate the home from outside conditions beneath the structure
The crawl space in this Twin Mountain, New Hampshire, home was transformed from a dark and exposed area into a much cleaner, sealed, and better-protected environment. The new CleanSpace® encapsulation system, combined with closed-cell spray foam insulation, now helps reduce moisture intrusion and outside air movement beneath the home while improving the overall condition and efficiency of the crawl space.
