Crawl Space Repair & Waterproofing in Westfield, Vermont | Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems
Challenge
A homeowner in Westfield, Vermont, was dealing with a damp, unfinished crawl space beneath their home. The space included exposed stone foundation walls, open ground areas, low clearance, and several important mechanical systems. The homeowner wanted a cleaner, more controlled crawl space to better protect the home and make the area easier to access when needed.
Northern Basement Systems inspected the crawl space and found several common issues seen in older Vermont homes. The exposed ground allowed moisture to enter the space, and the stone foundation sections created an uneven and difficult area to work around. Because the crawl space also contained a water heater, HVAC equipment, plumbing, and other mechanical components, the solution needed to improve the space without blocking access to those systems.
Solution
The crew installed a crawl space encapsulation system designed to separate the home from the exposed ground and create a cleaner environment. CleanSpace was installed across the floor and up the walls to provide a durable barrier throughout the crawl space. Drainage Matting was installed beneath the liner in selected areas to help create space for water to move underneath the encapsulation layer.
A sump pump system was installed to help collect and remove water from the crawl space. To help manage humidity, the team installed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. Spray foam insulation was also applied around the crawl space access area and key wall sections to help improve comfort and reduce outside air movement.
Products Installed
- CleanSpace: A durable crawl space liner installed across the floor and walls to create a cleaner, brighter barrier between the home and the exposed ground.
- Drainage Matting: Installed beneath the liner in key areas to help direct water below the encapsulation system.
- Sump Pump System: Installed to collect and pump water out of the crawl space.
- SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier: Helps control humidity and improve the overall crawl space environment.
- Spray Foam Insulation: Applied in targeted areas to help improve comfort and reduce outside air movement around the crawl space.
The crawl space is now much cleaner, brighter, and easier to access. The exposed ground has been covered, the walls have been protected with CleanSpace, and the space now has drainage, pumping, and humidity control. The homeowner has a more reliable crawl space system and a better-protected area beneath the home.
This Westfield project shows how a crawl space can be completely transformed with the right approach. By combining CleanSpace, Drainage Matting, a sump pump system, a SaniDry Sedona, and spray foam insulation, Northern Basement Systems helped this homeowner turn a damp, unfinished crawl space into a cleaner and more controlled part of the home.
