Crawl Space Repair and Vapor Control in South Acworth, NH | Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems
Challenge
The crawl space beneath this South Acworth, New Hampshire, home had two significant concerns. The floor system was not receiving adequate structural support, and the exposed ground allowed moisture vapor and damp conditions to enter the area beneath the home. Inadequate crawl space supports can allow floor joists and beams to sag or shift over time. Meanwhile, an uncovered dirt floor can continually release moisture vapor into the crawl space, contributing to uncomfortable conditions and affecting the area above. A specialist from Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems inspected the crawl space and evaluated the floor framing, structural beams, existing supports, and exposed ground. The inspection confirmed that additional reinforcement was needed beneath the weakened portion of the floor system. A durable vapor barrier was also recommended to separate the crawl space from the ground below
Solution
The crew installed the SmartJack® Crawl Space Support System beneath the affected floor structure. Steel support beams were positioned to strengthen the weakened framing, and adjustable SmartJack posts were installed below them. Each SmartJack was placed on a stable engineered base designed to help distribute the weight of the home. The posts were then carefully adjusted to provide direct support to the floor system above. A CleanSpace® vapor barrier was also installed across the dirt floor to create a cleaner, brighter, and better-protected crawl space.
Products Installed
• SmartJack® Crawl Space Support System
The SmartJack system combines steel support beams, adjustable galvanized steel posts, and engineered support bases to reinforce weakened crawl space floor systems. The steel beams help distribute the structural load across the affected area, while the adjustable posts transfer that weight down to the stable bases below.
• CleanSpace® Crawl Space Vapor Barrier
CleanSpace is a durable liner installed over the exposed crawl space floor. It separates the home from the earth below and helps reduce moisture vapor entering the crawl space.
The floor system is now reinforced by a professionally installed SmartJack support system. The new steel beams, adjustable posts, and stable bases provide dependable structural support beneath the home. The CleanSpace vapor barrier also transformed the dirt floor into a cleaner and better-protected surface. By combining the SmartJack Crawl Space Support System with CleanSpace, Northern Basement Systems provided this South Acworth homeowner with stronger floors and an improved crawl space.
