Challenge
The crawl space beneath this West Rupert, Vermont, home had visible mold growth and heavy staining across the wooden floor joists, beams, and subfloor. The unfinished crawl space allowed ground moisture and humid air to create damp conditions beneath the home. Removing the visible mold alone would not provide a lasting repair. The affected wood needed to be professionally cleaned, and the moisture conditions inside the crawl space also needed to be addressed. A system design technician from Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems inspected the crawl space and evaluated the wooden floor system, exposed ground, and overall moisture conditions. The inspection confirmed that the mold and staining should be removed from the wood before the crawl space was encapsulated. Solution
The crew prepared the crawl space and used the NuWood soda-blasting process to clean the affected wooden surfaces. The crew propelled sodium bicarbonate against the floor joists, beams, and subfloor with pressurized air, removing mold growth, dirt, and staining from the wood surfaces.
After the soda-blasting work was completed, the remaining material was carefully cleaned from the crawl space. The crew then installed the CleanSpace encapsulation system to isolate the home from the exposed ground and create a controlled area beneath the structure.
