Challenge
Damp conditions were affecting the crawl space beneath this Cambridgeport, Vermont home. Moisture originating from the ground and excess humidity in the air were contributing to an uncomfortable environment beneath the home. The homeowner needed a solution that would address both sources of moisture rather than relying on a dehumidifier or ground covering alone. Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems evaluated the crawl space and determined that encapsulation combined with active humidity control would provide an effective solution. The crawl space needed a durable barrier to isolate it from ground moisture, as well as a dehumidification system capable of automatically controlling indoor moisture.
Solution
Our crew installed the CleanSpace® Crawl Space Encapsulation System throughout the crawl space, creating a durable barrier between the home and the ground below. A SaniDry™ dehumidifier was then installed to remove excess moisture from the crawl space air and automatically maintain appropriate humidity levels. Together, the two systems address moisture in different ways: CleanSpace helps reduce moisture entering from the ground, while SaniDry controls moisture already present in the air.
Products Installed
• CleanSpace® Crawl Space Encapsulation System — A durable liner designed to isolate the crawl space from ground moisture while creating a clean, bright, and easier-to-maintain environment beneath the home.
• SaniDry™ Dehumidifier — A high-performance dehumidification system designed for basements and crawl spaces. SaniDry automatically removes excess moisture from the air to help maintain appropriate humidity levels without relying on conventional portable dehumidifiers.
The crawl space is now separated from the damp ground by the CleanSpace encapsulation system, significantly improving its overall condition and appearance. SaniDry provides ongoing humidity control, allowing the encapsulation and dehumidification systems to work together to create a cleaner, drier, and more comfortable environment beneath the home. By combining CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation with SaniDry dehumidification, Northern Basement Systems provided this Cambridgeport homeowner with a comprehensive approach to crawl space moisture control and long-term protection beneath the home.
