Challenge
The homeowner of this Gaysville, Vermont property was experiencing uncomfortable cold drafts during the winter. Cold air entering through the crawl space was affecting the floors and living areas above, making portions of the home more difficult to keep comfortable. The crawl space needed a solution that addressed both the exposed environment below the home and air infiltration around the crawl space perimeter. Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems evaluated the crawl space and identified areas where cold outside air could affect the environment beneath the home. Rather than relying solely on traditional insulation between the floor joists, our team recommended encapsulating and insulating the crawl space to create a more complete thermal and moisture-control system.
Solution
Our crew installed the CleanSpace® Crawl Space Encapsulation System to isolate the crawl space from the ground below. Closed-cell spray foam insulation was applied around the crawl space perimeter and rim joist areas to reduce air infiltration and heat loss at these vulnerable locations. Together, CleanSpace and closed-cell spray foam create a more continuous barrier between the home and the cold, damp conditions outside and below the crawl space.
