Challenge
A homeowner in Keene, New Hampshire, was facing two serious basement issues: a bowing foundation wall and recurring water intrusion. Over time, the pressure from the surrounding soil had caused one wall to lean inward, raising concerns about the long-term structural safety. Additionally, water was seeping into the basement during heavy rain, leaving puddles, increased humidity, and the familiar musty smell. The space had become unusable and uncomfortable, and the homeowner knew it was time to take action before the issues worsened.
Solution
Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems sent out a specialist to assess the situation and design a permanent solution. To stabilize the foundation, the crew installed the PowerBrace™ Wall Repair System, a series of zinc-coated steel I-beams that support the wall from floor to ceiling. This system not only halts further inward movement but can also be adjusted over time to help straighten the wall back toward its original position.
To tackle the water problem, the team installed a full-perimeter WaterGuard® drainage system, designed to collect groundwater at the floor-wall joint and direct it away from the basement. All collected water now flows into a TripleSafe™ sump pump, which features three pumps for added protection during storms or power outages. On the outside, they installed an IceGuard® discharge line, which prevents freezing in cold weather, and a LawnScape™ outlet to carry the water safely away from the home.
To complete the project and ensure year-round moisture control, the crew also installed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. This high-performance system maintains humidity levels, enhances air quality, and automatically drains into the WaterGuard system for a clean, maintenance-free solution.
