Challenge
This basement in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, had two significant concerns: water and moisture were affecting it, and movement in the foundation wall indicated a structural problem. Addressing only the water problem would have left the compromised wall untreated, and repairing the foundation wall alone wouldn't have solved the basement's moisture issues. The homeowner needed a solution that addressed both problems. Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems evaluated the basement and determined that a combination of waterproofing, humidity control and structural wall stabilization was needed. The foundation wall required permanent stabilization to prevent additional inward movement. At the same time, wall moisture needed to be managed without interfering with the structural repair system.
Solution
Our crew installed the CleanSpace® Wall System along the foundation to manage water entering through the wall and direct it toward the basement waterproofing system.
A TripleSafe® Sump Pump System was installed to collect and remove water from the basement, while a SaniDry™ dehumidifier was added to control excess moisture in the basement air.
Once the wall moisture system was in place, PowerBrace™ steel I-beams were installed over the CleanSpace Wall System to stabilize the compromised foundation wall.
This installation allowed CleanSpace to continue managing moisture behind the structural supports while PowerBrace provided the strength necessary to stabilize the wall.
Products Installed
• CleanSpace® Wall System — A durable basement wall system that manages water entering through foundation walls and directs it toward the waterproofing system while providing a clean, bright finished appearance.
• TripleSafe® Sump Pump System — Provides three levels of sump pump protection, including primary pumping capacity, additional pumping protection during high-water conditions, and battery-backup protection during power outages.
• SaniDry™ Dehumidifier — A high-performance basement dehumidification system designed to automatically remove excess moisture from the basement air and maintain appropriate humidity levels.
• PowerBrace™ Wall Repair System — A foundation stabilization system consisting of zinc-plated steel I-beams secured against the compromised foundation wall and connected to the structure above. PowerBrace is designed to prevent additional inward wall movement and may allow the wall to be gradually adjusted toward its original position when conditions permit.
The basement now has systems addressing both its moisture and structural concerns. CleanSpace manages water entering through the foundation wall, TripleSafe provides dependable water removal, and SaniDry controls excess humidity. PowerBrace provides permanent stabilization for the compromised foundation wall while allowing the CleanSpace system behind it to continue performing its water-management function. This Bretton Woods project demonstrates why basement problems sometimes require more than a single repair. By combining basement waterproofing and humidity control with PowerBrace foundation wall stabilization, Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems provided a comprehensive solution to protect both the basement environment and the home's structural integrity.
