The basement support system beneath this home in Averill, Vermont, needed improvement. The beams and floor structure above required dependable support at multiple locations, and the existing basement columns were no longer an ideal long-term solution. The homeowner needed a permanent structural support system designed specifically to stabilize the floor and beam system above. Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems inspected the basement framing, support beams, and existing columns to determine the appropriate locations for new structural supports. Based on the conditions beneath the home, SmartJack® steel support columns were selected to provide permanent, adjustable support beneath the affected beam system.
Solution
Our crew installed SmartJack steel support columns at strategic locations throughout the basement.
Each SmartJack was installed beneath the beam system to transfer structural loads downward through the steel column and engineered base.
The adjustable upper assembly allows each SmartJack to be precisely fitted beneath the beam. This provides dependable contact with the structure while allowing for future adjustment when appropriate.
