Our latest site inspection in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, captured this severe example of advanced foundation failure. Located high in the White Mountains, homes in this region contend with heavy snowmelt and dense, saturated soils. When groundwater cannot drain properly, it creates massive lateral hydrostatic pressure against the exterior foundation. This immense force pushes inward against the center of the wall, causing the concrete or block framework to bow, buckle, and ultimately tear open horizontally. Left unaddressed, hydrostatic pressure will eventually destabilize the upper frame of the house, resulting in total wall collapse.
